ART CRITICISM PAPER â€Å"The Grafin von Schonfeld with her Daughter† by Elizabeth Louise Vigee-LeBrun   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In the University Of Arizona Museum Of Art, the Pfeiffer Gallery is displaying many art pieces of oil on canvas paintings. These paintings are mostly portraits of people, both famous and not. They are painted by a variety of artists of European decent and American decent between the mid 1700’s and the early 1900’s. The painting by Elizabeth Louise Vigee-Lebrun caught my eye and drew me in to look closely at its composition.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   â€Å"The Grafin von Scholfeld with her Daughter† is oil on canvas art piece painted in 1793. It is a painting of a woman holding her daughter on her lap, the woman being â€Å"The Grafin von Schonfeld.† The woman is dressed in clothing that is from the upper class or a royalty stature in the late 1700’s. The clothing looks rich in material and sleek like silk in the colors of wine and a rich green. She has a covering on her head that looks like an extravagant scarf that drapes over her shoulder on one side, also made of the same silky material used for her dress. The woman has pale skin, reddish brown hair, bluish eyes, and rosy cheeks. Her eyes look very real and penetrating when you examine the painting. The daughter is about the age of 5 or 6 years old. Her arms are around her mother’s neck and legs draped across her mother’s lap. The daughter is wearing a white fluid dress that looks thin in material with a red sash around her midsection. The d aughter has the same reddish brown hair and rosy cheeks. The mothers and daughters eyes are equally as big in size, while the child’s eyes seem also very real and youthful.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The mother and daughter are sitting on a bench of some sort on a ledge of a window with a portion of the window open. Outside the window there is landscape of mountains, trees, and a stormy sky. The sky is rich with a high value of grays including the whites of the clouds. The technique for creating the landscape out the window, the painter used an atmospheric perspective. The outside is slightly less focused and very fluid compared to the detail used for the mother and daughter.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The colors used in the painting are very vivid yet rich in depth. A combination of high chroma and low chroma gives the picture its dep... ...oul. Maybe Vigee-LeBrun had this idea when painting and wanted the eyes of the people she painted to show the souls and the life of the people instead focusing on features that were less valuable.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã¢â‚¬Å"The Grafin von Schonfeld with her Daughter† is very interesting to look at. It shows history and context of the lives of the 1700’s. The textures of the dresses are beautiful and very alluring to the eye. The porcelain skin of the mother and daughter give the painting innocence and purity, along with the loving nature between the mother and the daughter. This is a very good piece of artwork because it draws you to it with you knowing why. Once looking at the painting you find yourself looking into the eyes of the subject being painted and seeing another life with in the portrait. The eyes can almost be eerie as well as breathtaking at the same time. The painting produces richness and a feeling of royalty that people in the 21st century do not understand but yearn just the same. I was very impressed of the classic style of the painting and my own yearning to have the same richness and â€Å"classiness† as the lives that were portrayed in Vigee-LeBrun’s painting.

Question 1: Identify and discuss the major issue(s) in the case In the requisition of the carborundum blades, it specifically mentioned that no substitute for Swiss blade is permitted but Iqbal still trying to find alternative solution available in the local market. He found the alternative sources and persuades the sawing operation to perform the trial. The trial is failed and now Iqbal convinced that he being sabotage, he accused the sawing operation team was purposely unfairly treated the local blades during the operation to ensure the local blades would fail. This is because, during the discussion with Sam, foreman of sawing operation, he is reluctant to proceed with the trial and very confident that the local brand will not work. His expression and behaviour showed that he feel happy to prove that the trail is failed. Question 2: Key fact of the case When Iqbal viewed the requisition of carborundum saw blades at Tampin plants, he found that the specialised blade made from Switzerland and purchase through local supply in Penang at cost of $220, DDP Penang. The requisition specified that no substitutes were permitted and Iqbal went to look for other alternative sourcing for better saving. Iqbal found two suppliers that producing local blade and was informed that the local brand, Dipson 412 is same quality as the Swiss brand. They quoted price of $112.50 and $115; both are DDP Tampin. Sam, foreman of sawing operation at Four Square is reluctant to try the local brands as he confident it would not stand up as per the Swiss brand. Finally he agreed but told Iqbal that he knows that the local brand will not work. Iqbal proceed with the trial purchase, and put provision that blades could returned for credit if it not prove equal to Swiss brand. The trial is fail as Sam showed Iqbal the sample of two local blades which burned during due to excess heat during the production. Sam expression was happy when he told Iqbal about the situation. Iqbal was convinced that the production workers had treated the blade unfairly to ensure that both blades trials unsuccessful. Question 3: The main problem in the case The trial failed and Iqbal convinced that the sawing operation team purposely treated the local blades unfairly to ensure that the trial is fail. From earlier discussion with Sam, the foreman of the sawing operation, he expressed his reluctant to proceed with the trial and informed Iqbal that he is confident that the local blades would not match the quality of the Swiss blade. Sam was also expressed his satisfaction when he bring the result to Iqbal showing the burned blades as prove that both local brands is not as equal to the Swiss blade. Question 4: What could Iqbal done to avoid this situation Iqbal could do the precaution step by monitoring the whole process of trial to ensure that the blades are being treated correctly in the operation process. This is important especially when during the discussion the foreman, Sam seems very reluctance of doing the trial. In order to avoid being disrupted or sabotage, he should closely monitor the entire process. Other than that, he could request the suppliers to involve in the trial process. Besides ensuring the blades are treated fairly, the supplier could share their expertise and able provide immediate advice if there is problem occurs. Question 5: What should Iqbal do now Iqbal should discuss with the management regarding the issues and point out his thought. He should get the independent opinion on the issues. But he should also bear in mind that his accusation may turn up to be wrong and the sawing operation team is not guilty. In handling the issue of possibility of being sabotage it could be sensitive and this will affect the positive relationship among co-workers in future. Iqbal could also do another trial if he convinced it will work but this time he or his trusted person which had expertise of understanding the procedure should monitor the process to ensure the blade is being handled fairly and trial is done properly. By doing another trial it would definitely increase the operation costs. He could also further discuss with the supplier of local brand and show the burned blades. By doing so, he could use the supplier expertise to gain information whether the blades has been treated fairly or not by examining the burned blades and find out the possible causes. Question 6: Suggestion for improving the situation of the company Open for substitutes Providing the clause that no substitutes were permitted which means depending on one source of supplier could be high risk for the Company. It also not encouraging the operation team to try new change as normally the operation team prefer the normal procedure that they already familiar with. Involvement of supplier Involvement of the supplier during the process could help to ensure that the process is being done properly and it would also help to provide the fast response for solution if there is problem during the sawing operation process. Expertise To ensuring the trial is done properly without any possibility of unfairly treated, expertise, the engineer should be in place to monitor the whole process.

Some mental illnesses can be small such as ADHD and anxiety disorders whereas others are more severe like Borderline Personality Disorder and Schizophrenia. The article was about how the demand and profits for the computer industry might be slipping. This opinion began being felt on Feb. 16th when Hewlett-Packard Co. and Dell Computer Corp. announced quarterly results were down. That disappointed Wall Street and their stock prices were punished. Many research continues to point out that this industry might be on its way down, in terms of financial gain. The industry will always be alive and kicking, but as prices continue to drop, profits will drop as well. That is a good thing for consumers, but a bad thing for businesses. Although the research continues to point out the decline, nobody is predicting this to be a long-term slowdown or a significant fall in demand for high tech gear. Corporate demand for PC's is dwindling, therefore in order for companies to sell, they must lower their prices. The price for a top of the line PC continues to drop. Every time Intel produces a new processor, they freeze the market. When Intel introduced its new Pentium III, they advertised it cheaper than their previous Pentium II. Consumers seeing that won't pay top dollar for PC's anymore. That is one of the main reasons the industry is at a lull. The only companies that seem to be prospering are those whose main focus is the Internet. Those companies will continue to prosper as the Internet becomes (already is) the main focus of communication. This article can relate to class many different ways. Not only in different ways, but also areas. The fact that the computer industry profit margin is at a low, is supported by a lot of research. This research is quantitative in that, it is given in percentages and statistics. For example, A survey for top corporations by market research firm Forrester Research Inc, shows they plan to raise information technology spending by just 1% this year, down from 4% in 1998. This quantitative research that is shown throughout the entire article is also primary data. Unlike the law of diminishing demand which relates to most of the business world, the demand for computers is falling, as is the price. The graph on the first page on the article clearly shows that the first-quarter PC sales is down half compared to 1996. Then in the article it says the pricing pressure is spreading where sub $1000 PC's are ruling. Pentium also shows an example of a product line. Their Pentium II and Pentium III processors are only a few in a line of 10 or so. Finally, the last thing that relates to class is how Intel acts as a reference group and/or group leader to the entire market. It says in the article that when Intel releases a new processor, the entire market freezes.
